  14.        _f_a_x_s_t_a_t_e     sends    a  message to the _H_y_l_a_F_A_X _f_a_x_g_e_t_t_y(${MAN
  15.        NUM1_8})    process    servicing _m_o_d_e_m    telling     it  to     use  the
  16.        specified  state    when notifying the _H_y_l_a_F_A_X scheduler that
  17.        a modem is ready    and available for use.     This  is  useful
  18.        for  controlling     outbound  use    of  a modem; by    marking    a
  19.        modem's state as    _b_u_s_y or    _d_o_w_n the _H_y_l_a_F_A_X  scheduler  will
  20.        not assign any outbound jobs to the modem.

  22.        The  specified _m_o_d_e_m can    either be the name (typically the
  23.        last component of the terminal port the modem is     attached
  24.        to),  or     the  full name    of the associated FIFO named pipe
  25.        file, e.g. ``FIFO.ttym2''.

  27.        If the --nn option, _f_a_x_s_t_a_t_e emulates  what  _f_a_x_g_e_t_t_y  would
  28.        do; sending a message directly to the _f_a_x_q process marking
  29.        the specified modem down, busy, or ready.  This    interface
  30.        is  useful  for    send-only  environments    in which _f_a_x_g_e_t_t_y
  31.        processes are not used.    Note that modems  manipulated  in
  32.        this  way  must    previously  have been configured with the
  33.        _f_a_x_m_o_d_e_m(${MANNUM1_8}) program.

  36.        The following options are supported:
  37.  
  38.        --nn     Contact _f_a_x_q directly instead of _f_a_x_g_e_t_t_y.
  39.  
  40.        --qq _d_i_r     Use a spooling    area other than    _$_{_S_P_O_O_L_}.
  41.  
  42.        --ss     Specify the state to send the _f_a_x_q process  each
  43.          time  the  modem  becomes  ready for use; one of
  44.          ``_b_u_s_y'', ``_d_o_w_n'', and ``_r_e_a_d_y''.  The  default
  45.          state to use is _r_e_a_d_y.
